有機的迷思 市面上有許多螺旋藻保健食品標榜“有機＂？？？？？？ 根據世界兩大螺旋藻供應商 Earthrise 和 Cyanotech 公司表示，自 2005 年 10 月 21 日起，同時停止生產「有機螺旋藻」，兩家公司花了 1 整年，依據美國農業部（USDA） 的國家有機標準委員會（NOSB），進行分析有機新標準核准使用的氮肥，做出此類氮肥將會危害螺旋藻食用安全性之結論 ；因螺旋藻會轉換氮源（氮肥）生成氮， 氮是胺基酸的重要組成份，胺基酸則是構成蛋白質的化學單位，也是酵素（本身 為蛋白質）組成份之一；螺旋藻的蛋白質含量高達 60％，需要大量可溶性硝酸鹽幫助成長。 大量使用替代的有機肥料將會產生依新規章生產的螺旋藻產品可能不安 全、依新規章所使用的有機肥料將導致細菌數偏高（雖經過進程處理可以殺死大 多數細菌，但仍會造成疾病感染、毒素污染或異味生成）、有機肥料無法完全溶 解水中，部分動植物堆肥殘渣隨產品一起採收，危害食用者健康、有機肥料含較 高量重金屬，會被螺旋藻吸收、有機肥料大量使用會造成其他藻類污染，影響產品品質等問題。 資料來源: 工商時報 98/02/17 Earthrise, Cyanotech Cease Organic Spirulina Production 美國兩大生產商宣布停止生產有機螺旋藻 —Earthrise Nutritionals and Cyanotech Corp., two leading U.S. suppliers of spirulina, announced they ceased production of organic spirulina in late October 2005. The suppliers note regulatory changes in the allowable nitrogen sources for production disallowed the use of a mined, water-soluble form of natural nitrogen, and use of sources allowed under federal regulations would compromise product safety. “Teams of scientists from both companies concluded that the potential for very high bacterial levels and heavy metals is far too great under the new standard,” said Taro Ichimoto, executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) at Earthrise. “Although consumers like to see the word ‘organic’ on the label, we won’t produce an organic spirulina if it compromises the safety of the product.” Gerald Cysewski, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) at Cyanotech agreed, adding: “Cyanotech and Earthrise are the world’s premium producers of spirulina. Both companies thoroughly studied the situation and came to the conclusion that maintaining organic production under the new standard would lead to a lower quality product at a higher cost. Furthermore, with the use of the new nitrogen sources, organic spirulina produced under the new standard may not be considered vegetarian or vegan, a critical point of distinction to many spirulina consumers.”
